Volunteers' Week 2020

This week we are celebrating Volunteers’ Week!
28 May 2020

At Central YMCA we have been supported by volunteers for over 175 years. This has had a huge impact on the development and running of our community programmes.

To celebrate our volunteers and to show our appreciation for all their hard work, we have made a video to say thank you.

Our volunteers have won a host of awards, the Prime Minister Points Of light and the SPORTA fitness industry awards both recognised their outstanding contribution to our communities. Read more

Our award-winning Positive Stroke programme, established in 2015, is entirely run by volunteers. Watch the video to hear from Marc about being a volunteer on Positive Strokes.

During the lockdown, Muminur and Joy from our YMCA Club Children and Youth Team have also been volunteering to support their local community.

Muminur has been volunteering with the King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Association (KCBNA), he and the volunteer team have been providing essential grocery shopping, removing recycling and waste bins, delivering flowers and checking in on those individuals most at risk of loneliness. Watch the full video from KCBNA.

Joy has been providing essential grocery shopping, liaising with GP's, arranging COVID-19 tests, and collecting prescriptions and medication for those who are shielding. She has also been volunteering with St Patrick’s Church Soho Square to provide support to homeless people, organizing food and showering facilities.
