Brats Day Nursery in Corby, has won our ‘Employer of the Year 2022’ Award.
Background
Brats Day Nursery has been established in childcare for over 30 years, with children's ages ranging from 3 months to 5 years old. Its thirteen members of staff provide a fantastic quality of care, with finger-print recognition technology for security, a 5* food hygiene rating, an on-site defibrillator and universal staff training in paediatric first aid.
Brats has a close relationship with Central YMCA, with 24 apprenticeship learners to date. This relationship has developed over the years, with a member of staff expressing that:
“we wouldn’t use any other company other than YMCA for our apprentices.”
Investing in Apprentices
Each learner is invested in and supported by Brats, establishing trust between team members and with the children. Investing in learners as individuals is Brats’ particular strength – notable instances include senior members of staff paying for extra training when learners are struggling, providing every learner with a mentor, and involving them in decision-making. Brats also retains each trainee after their apprenticeships – offering them permanent positions once they complete their learning. Kerry and Lauren from Brats say:
“We want our learners to be the very best they can be, to be proud of their achievements.”
As a result of building such a supportive and secure work environment, their staff often stay with them for years. Brats Nursery is doing amazing work with and for apprentices, and thoroughly deserves to win this award.
