Apprentice Nursery Nurse

To assist in delivering a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others To assist in developing partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development


Duties/responsibilities to include:

  • The care and supervision of the children with regard to their physical, emotional and intellectual needs
  • Working with the nursery nurses on planning and preparation of activities, to meet the children's individual needs, liaising with parents ensuring effective communication within the nursery
  • Offering all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasions, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural background and challenging situations where racism or discrimination is displayed
  • Positive management of children's behaviour
  • Preparation, care, cleanliness, and maintenance of the playrooms and equipment
  • Keeping and monitoring accident, incident and risk assessment records
  • Supervision of mealtimes, and where appropriate, preparation of babies’ bottles, meal and snack times
  • Laundry duties
  • Attendance of staff meetings
  • Participating in regular parent’s evenings, publicity, open weekends, and children's outings
  • Contribute to planning observations and activities
  • Use own initiative and work as part of a team
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the nursery manager, operations manager and area manager

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • To hold or be able to achieve English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent at grade 4/C and above
  • Paediatric First Aid preferred but not essential

Qualifications required

  • You will need good communication skills and be comfortable with creative thinking
  • It is helpful if you are confident with children, calm and organised
  • Experience of working/participating in a team environment
  • Written, verbal and listening skills

Future prospects

When you have successfully completed your Apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to continue with an exciting career in childcare! Initially you will be working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Childcare, with a chance to progress to a level 3 after that.

Successful applicants for our roles must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with previous employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).

  • Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
  • Function Skills, if required
  • Work based learning
