Y Touring has begun developing the charity’s latest Theatre of Debate production which is all set to explore the future of food. Written by acclaimed playwright Sarah Daniels, The Future of Food will debate and engage audiences with the many issues the world faces in feeding itself in the coming years, such as where our food comes from, how it reaches our plates, the impact of climate change on food production and tackling the dual problems of hunger and obesity.
Like every Theatre of Debate production, The Future of Food began its creative journey with an interactive workshop involving the playwright, members of the advisory group, students and teachers. The workshop provided information and stimuli to enable the playwright to write an informed and engaging synopsis, drawing insight from a fantastic team of experts in the field including Tim Lang, Professor of Food Policy at City University of London and the man who coined the phrase ‘Food miles’ and Kath Dalmeny Policy Director at Sustain.
The key themes of the day were captured in pictorial form by scribe Shakeeb Abu Hamdan; view the images here. You can also visit the online project scrapbook to view the opinions and research that is informing the development of the production.
