Activity Coordinator

Central YMCA

Salary: Circa. £22,000 and Comprehensive benefits package
Location: Centre based covering the North West
Hours: 40 per week

Kennedy Scott and YMCA Training are working in a strategic partnership to deliver the pan-national, pan-disability Specialist Employability Support (SES) contract, under the brand KS@YMCA. This pioneering offer fuses KS’s proven performance on DWP contracts with YMCA’s reach, global brand and holistic services. Together we created our innovative, holistic and integrated Circle of Support model.

Job purpose

The purpose of this role is to enable people with disabilities & mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bi-polar, anxiety and Asperger syndrome to be given an opportunity to live and work independently. We aim to create action plans suited to individuals needs to support them in building their confidence to partake in daily activities with the hope of eventually getting them into employment.

This role would suit someone with a residential training background as it will depend strongly on supporting learner’s individual needs. You would be working within a team which includes Case Workers and Employee Engagement Managers who are targeted to move clients into employment. You would also be responsible for sourcing activities and support meetings in places such as leisure groups whilst providing help with planning travel arrangements.

To be considered for this role, you will have proven experience of working with disabled learners and ideally working in and around work placements and mentoring learners. A level 3 or 4 Advice & Guidance qualification is desirable however not essential.

Travel will be extensive across the North West region and you will therefore need a driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Study Programme Tutor – Business Skills and Support

Joining us as a Business Skills Support Tutor for our Centre’s in Lowestoft & Norwich you will be
responsible for designing, planning and delivering inspirational programmes of learning that engage
and motivate young people to progress and achieve. Managing and delivering diverse learning
opportunities to groups of learners from initial interview and assessment, through to successful
completion. You will teach across a range of Business Skills qualification types and levels, from entry
to a Level 2 as a minimum, in group, individual and independent learning sessions.
You will be
responsible for monitoring candidates’ progress towards qualifications, giving constructive
feedback and helping them to provide a portfolio of evidence. You will also support the
achievement of Maths and English Functional Skills up to level 2.
You will provide our learners
with learning opportunities that aspire to outstanding and adhere to those standards within the
common inspection framework.


To be successful in this role, candidates will hold a PGCE / Cert in Education or L5 Diploma in
Education and Training and will be qualified to a minimum of Level 3 in your own vocational subject,
Business Administration, Customer Service or Retail. With experience of teaching young people,
between the ages of 14 – 16 and 16 – 19, you will have hands on experience of working with
individuals with varying behaviour management needs and barriers to learning, whilst designing,
planning and tracking the impact on each individual. Highly methodical, organised with good time
management, you will have strong ICT skills, to include all Microsoft packages and experience of
eILPs and above all will be committed to and highly experienced at developing positive tutor /
learner relationships that support learner progress and achievement. You will have excellent
interpersonal skills and be able to communicate with colleagues and customers at all levels. You will
also have experience of working with employers and of carrying out work place assessment visits
with learners on work placements.


Candidates must hold a valid driving licence and have access to own transport.

completion, you will teach English and Maths up to and including GCSE across a range of
qualification types and levels, in day, evening and independent learning sessions.


You will deliver learning opportunities that are practical in nature, develop employability and social
skills and enable learners to achieve accredited qualifications as well as qualifications in English and
Maths up to GCSE level. In addition, you will provide our learners with learning opportunities that
aspire to outstanding and adhere to those standards within the common inspection framework.
To be successful in this role, candidates will hold a PGCE / Cert in Education or L5 Diploma in
Education and Training and will be qualified to a minimum of Level 3 in English and/or Maths.

Trainer/Assessor (Horticulture)

Salary: £24,000 per annum (pro rata) plus travel expenses

Job purpose

You will effectively manage a caseload of learners at various locations in your region. You will assess and coach all learners individually or within a group.

You will motivate and support learners to achieve their Apprenticeship. You will identify and encourage further employees to undertake these qualifications/assessments and match their needs to the most appropriate qualification for their role.

Core duties and responsibilities include:

• Ensure that learners are engaged, retained and on target for timely completion of learning aims

• Motivate and drive learners to achieve their Apprenticeships through exceptional teaching and learning

• Identify individual learner requirements

• Design and deliver a bespoke programme of learning matching learner needs

• Assess, teach and support learners undertaking an Apprenticeship

• Provide information, advice and guidance throughout the learner’s qualification

Qualifications and experience required:

Occupational competency in Horticulture

Recognised assessor and teaching qualifications

Certificate in Education, PGCE or equivalent (desirable)

Be able to deliver Functional skills at a level 2

Full Driver’s licence and owns a car

Experience of working with E Portfolios

Excellent communication and time management skills

Proven track record of consistently exceeding targets

Experience of coaching/mentoring people with mixed abilities
