Awards

We work hard to help people live happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives so it’s a great boost when the value of our work is recognised by others. These are just some awards we are proud to have won.

InstructAbility wins Big Society Award

In 2013, one year on from the opening of the London Paralympic Games, our InstructAbility programme was recognised by Prime Minister David Cameron with a Big Society Award.

InstructAbility provides free fitness industry training for disabled people. Participants can gain a Level 2 gym instructor qualification and support to find employment within the fitness industry. Over 40 per cent of graduates have gone on to secure jobs as fitness professionals. Once qualified, instructors undertake a voluntary placement in the industry where they work to encourage more disabled people to get active, making them feel welcome in gyms and sports clubs.

Gold Award, Members’ Choice Health Club Gala Awards

The YMCA Club was presented with the prestigious Gold Award at the 2012 Members’ Choice Health Club Gala Award. Competing against over 400 health clubs, sports centres and spas from across the UK, the Club achieved the highest rating of all clubs that entered from the London area.

The online questionnaire focused on topics ranging from facilities, customer service and value for money and was completed by 37,000 club members from across the UK.
